Oh, the possibilities…

Hey ya’ll

So I came across something interesting while surfing the net and I thought to myself, hey, my readers would really be pleased with this information!

Yes, yes, I do think about you guys… So Singapore just had its first Modest Fashion Week in April 2017. It was held from the 14th until the 16th of April at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. The event featured Modest Fashion designers from Singapore, Malaysia as well as Indonesia.

It goes to show that Modest Fashion is all the hype lately, although as it is known Muslim women do not exactly dress to impress, we dress a certain way because we have rules set in place for that sort of thing. But, that does not mean that we cannot follow the rules in style, right.

The theme of the Fashion week was ‘inspire and be inspired’ which is so fitting, because all women want to look and feel beautiful and hosting these types of events are sure to inspire Muslim women to dress appropriately while still managing to look beautiful and be up to date with the latest fashion. There were more than 50 pop-up stores at the event that were open to the public so you could buy whatever you liked. The article I read stated that the true highlight of the 3 day event were the shows, of course, which showcased exclusive styling and make-up workshops which then followed by exclusive collections by designers that you might be hearing for the first time, but is definitely worth checking out, Suzzy Falak, Ria Miranda and Fizi Woo. The event also had live performances, which naturally tied the entire event together.

It is events like these that are really getting the message of dressing modestly out to young women who feel they need to dress like non-Muslims in order to fit in. Here is a beautiful hadith on that matter “And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their zeenah (charms, beauty or ornaments) except what must ordinarily appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not dsplay their zeenah except to their husbands, their fathers and that they should not strike their feet so as to draw attention to their hidden zeenah” (24:31-32) (Mwlusa.org, 2017).

So I thought I would share this little bit of information with you guys, because it truly shows that there are endless possibilities for the world of Muslims.
